Piano for Peace

To commemorate the legendary Bed-In by John Lennon and Yoko Ono which took place at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam on March 26, 1969, a very special event is taking place over the days leading up to the anniversary. This event will take place at the same hotel, in the very same room, and to help in the celebration, will feature an impressive white Steinway & Sons Imagine Series Limited Edition grand piano.

During their honeymoon in 1969, for a full week on and around March 26, John Lennon and Yoko Ono gave interviews from the bed of their hotel room. John Lennon later explained it as follows: "When we got married, we knew our honeymoon would be public anyway, so we decided to use it to make a statement. Our life is our art. That’s what the bed-in was. We sat in bed and talked to reporters for seven days. In effect we were doing a commercial for peace."

In collaboration with Steinway & Sons and the Hilton Amsterdam, DDB Tribal has organized this event as a commemorative sign of peace

The microsite www.pianoforpeace.com connects the scene with the web community. Through the computer keyboard of any Internet-enabled computer, people can actually physically play the Imagine Series piano from anywhere in the world through use of a custom-built robot arm – thereby sending their own personal musical message of peace. From March 23 through March 25, musical pieces can be recorded on the microsite and uploaded along with an optional photo.

On March 26, during the anniversary of the Bed-In, the songs will be played on the Limited Edition piano (which has a value of approximately 90,000 Euro), while the image of the respective pianist will appear on a screen above the historic bed. The pieces played will be documented on the microsite and will be available after the event.

"With ‘Piano for Peace’ we commemorate the yet unattained goal, which John Lennon and Yoko Ono pursued in their authentic and unique way: peace in the world. We will not be able to achieve it either, but with the help of modern technical facilities and the enthusiasm of the people on the social web, we have the chance to take a symbolic stand. Transported by the only universal language of mankind – music,” says Eric Schoeffler, Chief Creative Officer, DDB Tribal Group.

All information about the event will be available on the microsite, www.pianoforpeace.com, beginning on March 19. 2012.

“The Boston Blues” - 20 Years of Boston

Introduced in 1992, the range of grand and upright pianos “Boston – designed by Steinway & Sons” uses a number of our patents and displays the fine expertise of Steinway & Sons. Today, 20 years later, the first limited edition is launched to honour this anniversary: THE BOSTON BLUES.

THE LIMITED EDITION “THE BOSTON BLUES”.

This first limited edition in the history of Boston does not only inspire through its unique deep blue colour, but also through its outstanding details.

Every grand piano - ranging from the small GP-156 PE to the GP-215 PE - is equipped with a unique brass medallion. The “Boston designed by Steinway & Sons” side logo and all other Boston logos are elegant brass inlays.

20 BOSTON BLUES of each of the Boston models (3 upright, 5 grand pianos) will be produced, so that the number of anniversary models will be limited to 160 pianos worldwide. The brass medallion which includes the name of the edition, the model and the number makes every instrument one-of-a-kind and gives the customer the opportunity to select his favourite model (maybe even with his lucky number on it).

	20 YEARS OF BOSTON
	“THE STEINWAY PROMISE“
Every single Boston instrument is endorsed by Steinway & Sons. That’s why we’ve developed the Steinway Promise. Until now, the promise said that if at any time within ten years of the date of purchase a customer decides to trade his Boston for a new Steinway & Sons piano, he receives an allowance equal to the full purchase price of his piano.

In the 20th anniversary year of the Boston range, we are delighted to increase the period of the Steinway Promise to twenty years. This special offer does not only include the BOSTON BLUES limited edition, but the complete Boston product range (except the trade of a Boston Grand Piano for a Steinway Upright Piano).

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to become one of the very few owners of the BOSTON BLUES limited edition. Contact your authorised Steinway & Sons dealer now, who will be pleased to answer all further questions.

Pangbourne College to become All Steinway School

Pangbourne College’s commitment to become an All Steinway School commenced last week by selecting two new Steinway grand pianos, including a new Steinway & Sons Concert Grand. College students and staff were thrilled when Maestro Vladimir Ashkenazy generously agreed to participate in the selection process.

Completion of a new music building at Pangbourne scheduled for April 2012 will see a further 10 new pianos arriving from Steinway & Sons, making Pangbourne College only the third Independent School in the UK to be designated “All Steinway School”.

ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY
to become one of only 10 owners worldwide of
the limited Steinway & Sons "Alfred Brendel" Edition!

The names Steinway & Sons and Alfred Brendel can’t be separated. During his long concert career, it was the Steinway concert grand the maestro insisted to play.

THE LIMITED STEINWAY & SONS “ALFRED BRENDEL EDITION”

On June 28, 2011, Alfred Brendel visited the Steinway factory in Hamburg to personally select 10 Steinway & Sons grand pianos, Model B-211, in ebony high polish.

With his signature on the iron plate and a framed certificate and photograph of Alfred Brendel signing the plate, this Steinway grand piano is very special and unique.
Steinway & Sons will donate a portion of the proceeds from each instrument to the Young Musicians Trust, which Alfred Brendel founded in 2003.

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity and contact your authorised Steinway & Sons dealer now, who will be pleased to answer all further questions.

The testimonial of Alfred Brendel is “I want to make music. That means that I prefer the Steinway piano". Why don’t you share this joy and become one of the ten owners of the unique "Alfred Brendel" Edition worldwide?

Lang Lang, 52 Steinway-Designed Pianos, and 100 Piano Students at London’s Royal Festival Hall

Steinway Artist Lang Lang is an internationally renowned classical pianist that is credited with inspiring 40 million children to take up the piano in China (often called the "Lang Lang Effect"). He has been taking his talents around the globe to try to inspire that same effect in youngsters worldwide, as part of a program called Lang Lang Inspires.

(Photo courtesy of Southbank Centre, London)

On May 22, 2011, Lang Lang took to the stage at the Royal Festival Hall in London with quite the accompaniment—100 outstanding young British pianists. The event was organized as a partnership between Lang Lang and the Southbank Centre, with the main goal of increasing the profile of classical piano music in the United Kingdom. Beginning with an open call for internet auditions, a short list of about 500 entries was accepted. From there, Lang Lang himself helped to narrow down the list to 102 finalists ranging in age from 6 to 23 years old.

In organizing the event, there was a need for 51 pianos in addition to the Southbank Centre's Steinway, in order to accommodate the young pianists (2 pianists per piano). These instruments—all Steinway-Designed pianos—were supplied by Steinway Hall - London, and it took all of the stage space at Royal Festival Hall to accommodate the impressive collection of pianos.

Tickets for the event had sold out months earlier, and the sell-out crowd was not disappointed by the performance. Six talented finalists were selected for solo performances, and then the entire group took part in the rest of the program, playing alongside Lang Lang, conducted by James Lowe. For the finale, the group played Beethoven's Fifth. For the encore, they played Wagner's "The Flight of the Valkyries."
